Beware. Because these quotes are sooo me!

Adventures from the Casa of Anjel: Jewelry Edition

If you know me then you know that I am completely and thoroughly addicted to jewelry! Its one of my many vices and yet, I'm proud of it :). I'm also a strong believer in the fact that you are never too old to play dress up! I think that it is every girls right to break out her jewelry box and favorite dresses and go wild... And I must confess: I just did that yesterday haha. Here are some of the pics that I snapped along the way:

Haha I know, I know. I'm a mess. A jewelry obsessed, picture loving mess :)

Miracles are for REAL!

I did it ya'll!!! I just submitted by short essay on who inspires me and why to Kaplan Test Prep!

It was nerve racking to narrow all my thoughts down into this tiny 250 word summary but I just finished and I am ecstatic! :) Even if I don't win, which I don't really think I will, I am still super happy that I pushed through my momentary stresses (with the help of my beloved Isaiah) and submitted it. Now lets just hope it doesn't have any typos lol!!!

Here it is:
Every young woman needs that she looks up to, someone that inspires her, and someone that’s a good example of what it is like to be secure in herself. All my life I have struggled with being that one black girl in a room full of Caucasians. My mom would constantly encourage me to be proud of my ethnicity and realize that black was beautiful. Unfortunately I never quite believed her. In my mind, the only picture of universal beauty was a woman like Audrey Hepburn or Marilyn Munroe, both tremendously stunning women but neither had any connection to my heritage. Then one day as I blindly followed my mother around Victoria’s Secret I found myself face-to-face, nose-to-nose with a poster. Startled I backed up and allowed my eyes to focus on the beautiful ebony woman portrayed in front of me. She was poised and elegant, confident and demure. A woman that seemed to recognize her heritage and was clearly confident in the skin that she was placed in. That woman was Chanel Iman. Never before had I come across a woman that demonstrated so many characteristics that I want to develop. Chanel Iman has a perfectly balanced sugar and spice personality, a shy, quiet, yet confident way of presenting herself to scouts and an undeniably beautiful face. Chanel Iman is the type of woman that inspires me because she shows me that even a woman born out of two second-world ethnicities, such as myself, can make a difference!

Chanel Iman has blown my mind once again!!

Its officially summer time!

And with summer comes: crazy pool parties, friends, barbecues, and new swim suits! And I: Anjelica Faith, am officially in love with a new suit! It was modeled by no other than the lovely Chanel Iman on FOAM magazine. Chanel Iman is featured below wearing a black "corset-like" swim suit top and high waisted bottoms.
Chanel Iman modeled many, many different things and probably hundreds of swim suits but this particular style is definitely my favorite. I will be on the lookout for a suit like it in the average American's price range for sure! And for those of you that can actually afford this swim suit... Well then I think I hate you a little bit! Haha

Pucker Up!

Ever wonder what the secret is to getting baby soft, impossibly smooth lips?

Well here you go! Whenever my lips are feeling flaky or not as soft as I want them to be
I use these tricks to make them perfectly soft, kissable, and smooth.

If what you need is a more intense treatment for your lips then here is the all natural, at home remedy for you:
Ingredients-
  • 3 tablespoons of raw sugar or cane sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil
For the intense treatment simply mix the oil and sugar together in a cup (keep in mind that the ideal consistancy is thick and coarse). Dip your toothbrush into the sugar mixture and rub over your lips generously in a circular motion. Do this for several minutes and when finished rinse lips off, dry, then seal in the moisture with a coat of your favorite chapstick.

If all you need is a quick, simple fix to get instantly softer lips then simply: Put a cup of water in the microwave for about 2 minutes until it gets nice and hot. Take your toothbrush and dip it into the water. Gently shake out some of the hot water from the bristles and blow gently on it to cool it off ever so slightly. Rub your lips with medium force with the toothbrush, re-dipping it into the water as it cools. After a few minutes of repeating this procedure begin to move your brush in a circular motion to remove any dead skin and flakes. Afterwards rinse your mouth gently and seal in the moisture with your favorite chapstick.

Oh Modern Family... How I love thee :D

Modern Family may well be one of the funniest shows on television! My new favorite quote:

"Arms down here say I'm white and I'm sorry, but arms up here say you don't know what I am!"

DIY Hepburn :)

Now I know full and well that I am not Audrey Hepburn... But a girl can dream can't she? :) Here is my version of the classic Hepburn look. It's a little off-kilter and whimsical but I must say I really do like the look! What do you think?

The dress is from H&M , the shoes are from Forever 21, and the earrings are from Nordstroms

The Adoration of Audrey

Never in all of my life have I come across a woman that radiated a beauty as soft and unassuming as Audrey Hepburn. She is so classy and stunning and if I could pick just one word to describe her i believe I would say that she is: lovely. My mission of the day is going to be to put together some Audrey Hepburn inspired outfits. The Audrey-look is one of the most timeless, classic looks on Earth, it never goes out of style and it can be utilized as many ways as you can imagine!

If you are looking to invest in a few timeless pieces to "classify" your wardrobe I would recommend
designers such as: Chanel, Betsy and Adam, and Prada

If those high-profile designers are a bit out of your price range then I would encourage
you to try stores such as: White House Black Market, Forever 21, and H&M

The Trials and Tribulations of being Hormonal

How in the hell does one know for sure when they're in love?

Look don't judge me. I realize that this is quite possibly the most commonly asked question on Earth but I am convinced that in some ways God has allowed it to become something of a conspiracy.
Please let the record show that this quote is entirely my own. In fact I just came up with it at this moment as I lounge in my day bed, my hair pulled back into a loose messy bun that practically screams "SEX HAIR" even though I'm a proud virgin. *Ahem* here goes:
"Love is the single most allusive four letter word on Earth. No one can fully comprehend it until they have experienced it first hand. And those that have tasted  love on the tips of their tongs have been rendered too blissfully ignorant to share the knoweledge with the rest of us."
I oughta Copyright that one :)

Necessity!

I swear I will kiss the first person that buys me these shoes! I wear a size 9 lol ;) They are just so STUNNING! They're from Brian Atwood's lower-priced line: B by Brian Atwood. God that man and his line are so dangerously fantastic! Prices of this collection ranged from $275 to $995 when it was first released in 2011 but now that we're in a new season chances are we all can score great deals on this fabulous footwear!

Music For The Sensitive Soul :)

I confess this: I am a hopeless romantic. I live to love. I love everything and everyone! It's just in my nature I suppose. And my friends often tell me that my music reflects my personality to the core. My friend Ria once told me: "When I listen to your music it's like I can hear you whispering in my ear your life story." (Ria's a poet lol) and after she told me that I began to ponder the importance of music and what it does for your spirit.
If you are a fellow music lover I would encourage you to read the book: This Is Your Brain On Music by: Daniel J. Levitin. This is one of my all time favorite books. It is incredably well written and although it is based off of scientific data which, if you aren't into geeky science stuff like myself, can be a bit hard to comprehend it is still well worth your time in my opinion.

Here are some of my favorite songs. Listen to them and see if you can imagine what I'm like in person. And even is you can't imagine they're still really great songs by some of my all-time favorite artists. :)
  • Warwick Avenue- Duffy
  • Banana Pancakes- Jack Johnson
  • Stare into the Sun- Grafitti6
  • One and Only- Adele
  • Simple Math- Manchester Orchestra
  • Come Away with me- Norah Jones
  • Hey Little Rich Girl- Amy Winehouse
  • Valerie- Amy Winehouse
  • Tightrope- Janelle Monae
  • Fear- Jasmin Sullivan
  • Ordinary People- John Legend
  • I'm Every Woman- Whitney Houston

The Striking Presence of Being Nude

Makeup! <3 The most popular women's beauty product on the planet. For some women it is a necessity, for others it's repulsive and for those women like myself makeup is a burden that we choose whether or not to tackle on a day to day basis. This post is to explore the pros and cons of going nude (in the context of makeup) and also get opinions from others.
This is me with makeup. A small amount but it is there. I'm wearing mascara and lipgloss only. But below is a picture of me with absolutely no makeup. Not a drop.
See what I mean? The difference between the two pictures isn't exactly drastic. Its actually not even really noticable! Although I am one of those ladies who is blessed with naturally smooth skin I am also a strong believer in pampering your skin and treating it with kindness. For me this means absolutely no foundation or harsh chemicals, using facial wash every morning and exfoliating twice a week. As a reward my skin is almost always flawless and glowing. Another plus to not wearing makeup everyday? My eyelashes are strong and long thanks to the fact that I'm not coating them with mascara and my lips are perfectly kissable because i use chapstick under all of my lipglosses and Burt's Bees Beesewax during the wintertime!

So what I want to know from whoever you are reading this is: What are your opinions on the matter of makeup?
Feel free to post a comment or simply vote in the poll on the right side of the screen!

Imanism: The Religious Following of an Obsessed Teenager

As a young girl I dreamed of being many things: a pilot, a doctor, a movie star, a princess, even a pop star. But most of all I dreamed of becoming a model. I suppose that many of these dreams and aspirations stemmed off of my own mothers dreams to pursue a career in the modeling industry. When my mother was young, between the ages of 5-7, scouts would constantly approach my grandmother about putting her into modeling or acting schools; when my mom reached high school age she signed with Flair Modeling Agency but because of the lack of jobs in Tucson she was asked to travel around the United States. Unfortunately for her my grandmother was not interested in allowing her seventeen-year-old daughter to travel abroad and discontinue her education, and there lies the end of my mother’s modeling career. The funny thing is: I am fairly regularly scouted by modeling and talent agencies to audition for a spot on their rosters; but unlike my mother I formed a love of reliability very early on in life and realize that a successful career in modeling isn’t very easy to achieve. Still, every now and again I get this longing, this aching, to walk down a runway in the most coveted, high fashion clothes with cameras flashing on all sides of me. I find myself striking poses in front of the floor length mirror in my bedroom and mimicking the “Tyra Banks eyes” with the ferocity of a cougar in the bathroom mirror as I apply my mascara. I daydream about what it would be like to live the life of Chanel Iman and be known worldwide for my beauty… I admire Chanel Iman and her glamorous lifestyle because chances are that any girl in my position would!
My aunt Christiana has told me many times that every young woman needs a role model. Someone that she looks up to, someone that inspires her, and someone that’s a good example of what it is like to be secure in herself. All my life I have struggled with being that one black girl in a room full of white people. My mom would constantly encourage me to be proud of my ethnicity and realize that black was beautiful. Unfortunately I never quite believed her. In my mind, the only picture of universal beauty I knew was a woman like Audrey Hepburn or Marilyn Munroe, both tremendously stunning women but neither had any connection to my heritage. That woman was Chanel Iman and as I was shaken from my hazy gaze by the sound of my mothers voice I vowed to find out more about this woman on the poster. That night I Googled the name Chanel Iman and instantly came across her website and personal blog. As I scanned the pages, which swiftly summed up the eventful life of Chanel I quickly fell in love. For the first time in my life I was presented with a black woman and saw nothing but pure beauty. Not only that but her character and accomplishments was something that inspired and bewildered me. I had never come across a woman before that I held so many characteristics that I wanted to develop. Chanel Iman has a perfectly balanced sugar and spice personality, which I envy on a day-to-day basis, a shy, quiet, yet confident way of presenting herself to scouts and an undeniably beautiful face. Born to a Korean father and an African- American mother Chanel Iman has a very interesting heritage. I myself, coming from an African- American mother and a Venezuelan father find it to be encouraging that another woman from two second- world ethnicities has come as far as she has, to the point of being incredibly successful.
Recognized as one of the most successful female African- American models of her time, Chanel Iman is the epitome of success. With a net worth of over 8 million dollars, Iman has had many lucrative opportunities. What’s even more impressive is the portfolio that has garnered her so much attention. At the age of thirteen years old Chanel moved from Atlanta, Georgia to Los Angeles, California and was signed to the prestigious Ford Modeling Agency and placed 3rd in Ford’s Supermodel of the World contest. In 2006 Chanel’s career took off like never before as she graced the runways of fashion icons such as: Marc Jacobs, Ana Sui, Phillp Lim, and Valentino. In the season following the hype of her electric debut Chanel Iman’s name began to take on a sense of reverence in the fashion world as she was dressed by some of the greatest designers of all time including: Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, John Galliano, Tom Ford, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Hermes, Jean Paul Gaultier, Alexander McQueen, Ralph Lauren, Micheal Kors, Oscar De La Renta, and Givenchy. In May 2007 Chanel Iman was on the cover of Vogue (which makes her the youngest African-American model to ever grace its cover) and was named one of the most promising 10 Up and Coming Models. In the spring of 2009 Chanel Iman stunned the fashion world by strutting proudly down the runway of Gucci; she was the first black model to walk for this designer in over eight years!
In July of 2011 Stylebistro.com interviewed Chanel Iman asking her questions about her career and family. When asked what the hardest part about modeling was she was quoted as saying: Obviously, I think most people would agree, but just being away from my family. I'm very family oriented and I love my family and everyone's from LA and no one's here in New York, but I'm the one who lives in New York so it's very difficult to be distant from my family when I'm away.” This is another one of the characteristics of Chanel Iman that I admire. Even through all of the attention and fame Chanel has still stayed grounded and committed to her family. Numerous magazine articles have quoted her saying that without the support and encouragement from her family she would be nothing. Metacafe.com even has a video posted on their website titles “Family Dynamics” which interviews Chanel and her mother and explores their bond. Chanel Iman proves she is down to earth as she admits to shopping in the most modest of stores and even channels much of her attention into The HerShe Group Foundation, an organization dedicated to mentoring teen girls in foster care as the make the transition into society. I really value the fact that Chanel Iman takes a special interest in children in foster care because I have several friends that were adopted out of foster care and their lives have been greatly enriched.
As a young girl living in America I will not deny that life can be difficult. Young ladies are in desperate need for positive role models! Everywhere we turn we are bombarded with images of airbrushed, makeup covered, cleavage barring women. We read magazines like Seventeen and Cosmopolitan and are told that boys are attracted to skin, boobs, and curves. We have played with idealistically formed Barbie dolls for as long as we can remember and watch movies and television shows which allow the most beautiful women in the nation to parade around the set as if it’s the most normal, realistic thing in the world. All these “norms” that the world has used to dominate the minds of adolescent females have caused us to doubt the beauty, which God has created us all with. Statistics show that girls between the ages of 7-13 experience major mood swings and need to shown how to properly channel their emotions. Women like Chanel Iman make a difference, not only in my life, but also in the lives of girls all over America because they douse our lives with a touch of refreshing realism that soothes the doubtful hormonal rager that dwells inside the minds of thousands of teenage girls. Chanel Iman inspires me because she shows that an average thirteen-year old mixed girl from Georgia can defy the odds and become one of the most famous supermodels of her time. If she can pull that off then I, an average fifteen-year old girl from Tucson, Arizona is capable of becoming anything that I want to be.
